As a student you should know your limits... high frequency design is going
to be one of them, and thats starts considerable lower than the GHz range.

You were also talking about x-ray modulation... I suggest you stick to lower
frequency, especially of the non-ionising type.

No way
You'd need degrees in mechanical and electronic engineering, just to make
the attenuator bit.
