I am looking to test for reverse polarity that would be incorporated into an adapter which would plug into the wall (regular houselhold outlet) and not have to use a battery to detect for reverse polarity. Is it possible?

A household outlet has AC, the polarity changes 50 or 60 times a second. I don't think that's what you want to test. Can you be more specific?

I think he means the neutral / live reversed.

If it is an outlet with a ground connection, you would want to put an indicator between the neutral and ground. If it lights, the polarity is reversed.
