Hello, I am repairing a GE Spacesaver XL Microwave. Specificially I am replacing a door sensing switch (http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=2024337) and monitoring switch (http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=2024338). I am replacing these based on feed back regarding the operation of the microwave. In summary, the unit operates correctly when one lifts on the door. If no pulling up on the door, the unit does not engage fan and heating unit (only counts down on the timer and lights up). The reccommendation is to replace these switches. However, when I pull the switches and check them with a meter, they seeem to work fine. I read a little that they may still be bad? Can this be the case?

its possible that the switch just isnt being actuated properly by the tab in the door that comes up against the switch "button". As the microwave unit ages and parts get worn the switch may not be activating unless pushed at the right angle.

When it comes to microwave ovens saftey is a major consideration and for that reason alone I would probably replace the switches to ensure correct operation. Especially if the oven was more than a few yrs old

And like davenn said, make sure the tab on the door that engages the switches, is not
chipped, warped, or broken, ...and will engage the switch actuator.
