Anyone know how to remove silkscreen from pcbs? I tried acetone but had no

Difficult! It actually was silkscreened ink many years ago, but it's a
form of epoxy resin these days. There are solvents for epoxy resin, but
they are rather nasty.

It's typically made out of the same material (epoxy) that holds the
PCB laminate together. So anything you use to attack the silkscreen
ink will attack the PCB itself. You can remove it mechanically (sand
or grind it off).

Besides Leon's and Spehro's comments,
If there is soldermask on the board, the silkscreen and the soldermask
are similar epoxy materials and they are basically unseparable. What may
attack or soften the silkscreen will likely do the very same to the
soldermask.
