I found this remote circuit: http://electrosofts.com/ehome/index.html#Remote

I tried it but it didn't work, maybe because I used 2n2222 instead of BC177. I don't know if it's the reason why it's not working because my professor told me I can use 2n2222 for it since BC177 isn't available in the market.

Can 2n2222 really be used in replace for BC177?

    Thanks!

    It should work fine.

However that circuit shows the IR LED around the wrong way and also the series resistor is probably too high in value.

Oh, and I would put the load in series with the collector, not the emitter.

With all those errors, I would double-check the frequency is near what the TSOP1738 expects.
