Reference design for high-power stepper motor?

Hello,

for small stepper motors, there are many useful ICs around.
For example, the Allegro 3977 supplies 35V/2.5A very efficiently
and contains the complete controls including microstepping.

When it comes to higher powers, discrete circuits are needed.
I am particularly looking for reference design in the 80V/5A
area with (probably discrete) MOSFET H bridges and microstepping
(I think 1/8 step is sufficient) PWM current regulation.

Can someone provide a link to a matching application note or
some other useful information?

(I think Win's beloved HIP 4080/4081 will be well suited to this
kind of application, provided additional current regulation and
state machine.)

Thanks,
