Reduce voltage of DC adapter without reducing current

That's the answer. Simply put a reversed Zener diode in series as John
Fields said in his original post. I had tried this option (see above),
but I hadn't taken into account the voltage drop under load when
picking a Zener. Thanks all for your help.

Even has a schematic diagram. Mentioned again
6/7 by Jason Betts, and again by him 6/8.
