Hi, does anyone know if there's some sort of microphone I could set up
inside my home that would be able to effectively record the sound outside,
    through a closed window.

I've got a CCTV camera set up outside at the moment, but with no audio.
Rather than get a microphone professionally fitted outside I was hoping I
might just be able to get something that could work from inside that I could
set up myself. Is it possible?

    Thanks in advance.

If the sound source is not too far from the window you can attach a PZM
directly to the inside of the glass. The larger or thinner the glass, the
better your reception will be. Audio Technica used to make a reasonably
priced PZM for use in conference rooms.
