Hi, I am new to all this and have a project in mind. I am looking for a device A, that just sends out radio waves and a device B that just receives them. This should only happen if the two devices are 5m within reach of each other. Device B, can make a sound or just light up or both!
Can someone suggest anything, help or point me in the right direction?
    Thanks.

Then you first need to focus on designing a device-circuitry that measures the distance between transmitter and receiver being 5m. Can be complex or as simple as a 5m string between them activating a tension switch.
When that gets accomplished, enabling the radio link.
There is a reverse gadget in the market, but not very precise for distance :

In order for you to receive relevant answers it's always best to divulge 'completely' what you're desirous of doing.
