Radiation (?) question

You know how when you move a battery radio close to a electro magnetic /
electro mechanical device, it picks up static and noise? well I recently
bought an exercise machine, and was surprised to find that when I used
it, and was listening to a radio nearby, the radio went 'beserk'! So I
kept moving the radio further away, but was still getting the
interference. So I checked to see how far it would need to be removed to
avoid interference, and was surprised to discover that it was still
picking up static and noise from the exercise machine several rooms
away! I then took it outside to a distance of about 15 metres and it was
still getting interference! My question is.. what does this signify or
indicate? Does it mean that the machine is harmful to health in some
way? My experience has always been that moving a radio away from
electronic devices by just one to a few meters will cause the
interference to cease. and since the radio is battery operated, it
cannot be picking up interference via the mains. ???. Thanks for any help.

** Looks like it has a brush motor like a vacuum cleaner - so there is
arcing on the commutator.

Arcing produces local RFI.

Can you take it back it is illegal creating interferance to
transmisions.
There are noise suppresion filters which plug between power point and
device $$

** Bullshit it is.

The machine has C-Tick approval so whatever EMI it generates is within the
allowed limit.

Noise on the AM band is the least controlled sort of EMI.

**Waste of money. AM radios are extremely susceptible to interference.
Even interference that is within allowable limits.

What sort of fool pays good money for an exercise machine? Just go for
a fucking walk or a run - and take your radio with you. Kill 2 birds
with one stone - plus it doesn't cost you anything. Unless or course,
you have an ankle bracelet that doesn't allow you to leave your
residence. If so, carry on.

LOL
I can’t believe anyone would pay good money for that.

To me it looks too much like “standing up” & "holding on" !

Creating a carbon footprint the size of a small 3rd world country to stand
on a wobbly platform .

You call that exercise?

Couldn’t you buy a ticket on a bus and stand up for the trip, wouldn’t that
be the same thing?

No wonder were living beyond our means, people want to build nuclear power
plants for our “base load” power then waste on exercise machines etc?!.

** Well, going running in the burbs puts a soul at the mercy of the weather,
half blind car drivers and vicious dogs.

Not to mention the chances of breaking you ankle or leg b stepping in an
invisible hole in the pavement

PLUS with a running machine, you can sensibly enjoy cold beer and pizza at
the same time as you exercise.

**That's all well and good, but see if you can find an exercise machine
fitted with a decent ashtray. Coach wouldn't think of exercising without
a fag (cigarette).

Just that it’s a fucked design that doesn’t give a damn about
radio interference and may even be illegally bad in that regard.
Does it mean that the machine is harmful to health in some way?
Nope.

My experience has always been that moving a radio away from electronic
devices by just one to a few meters will cause the interference to cease.

That’s only because of the interference that’s being
produced by those and whether it uses the mains
power lead as an aerial in effect etc.
and since the radio is battery operated, it cannot be picking up
interference via the mains. ???.

Correct. But you will find that badly maintained car
engines with crude wire spark plug leads can do the
same thing and it’s a complete yawn health wise.

Typical chinese shit, the bimbo even has slitty eyes.

But you don’t see that effect with such small motors normally.

** A 1kW brush motor is NOT small and at close range and in weak AM signal
conditions there is always some EMI.

answered the question..

Well that's my only concern. So I'm gonna live for another twenty
years?.. :)

yeah, but at the home show they were selling these type of machines for
$2000 - $3500. So two or three grand for a 'quality' machine with a
three to five year warranty, or $200 (at auction) for a Chinese knock
off, what would you buy?

How does that work actually? I've always considered bed the best place

there's also the time factor. you supposedly get as much benefit in less
time.. and you can watch tv while doing it.

I have to agree with Trev. The better the am radio, the worse the
interference susceptibility is. Either tune into a FM station, or buy
a really cheap am radio, or exercise on your machine listening to a cd
or something. In other words, use your brain man.

I can listen to the radio via my smart phone app and earbuds if I want
