Quietest home wind generator?

Anybody give information on the noise of a 500-1000W windmill?

The specs never state the noise they produce. I have been told the Lakota
units are pretty quiet in comparison

I suspect that the variations on Savonius rotors might be relatively
quiet, since they are relatively slow (tip speed below wind speed).

Thats because there are so many variables. There are no "standard noise"
conditions to compare anything to.
From reading homepower magazine and personal observation.

For the same power production, you want the machine to be
larger, higher and slower RPM. More blades causes lower RPM.

Modern big ones are almost impossible to hear when standing directly under
them.
I made a twin blade about one meter diameter that sounded like nothing else
I've ever heard it was so loud. airfoil does make a difference, modern high
tech airfoils are designed to be quieter.
