While you're figuring that out, take some time to learn about the virus
you're infected with:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html

Happy99.Worm
Also Known As: Trojan.Happy99, I-Worm.Happy, W32.Ska, Happy00
Type: Worm
Infection Length: 10,000 Bytes
Systems Affected: Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me
Systems Not Affected: Macintosh, UNIX, Linux
CVE References: CVE-1999-0668

It seems that Win 2K is not affected. It's also not not affected.

My NAV didn't complain so I must be safe.

I bet if you were to download and try to run the happy99.exe attachment, NAV
would complain. As it stands right now, it's still encoded. Just an FYI,
you're using 6.0.2600 -- the latest version is 6.0.2800.1106 I believe.

No, I'm using 'Norton AntiVirus' Version 8.07.17C

Sorry about that. It's been a while since I've dealt with Happy99 and forgot
that it doesn't rely on the ubiquitous i-frame exploit. When I was down with
the first message, I caught my error and re-type the message. The FYI above
was leftovers...meant to refer to Outlook Express' version.

That Trojan came before Win 2k, try it out and you'll see that it is
compatible. Win 2k is another version of windoze NT.

O.K. Michel, I'm trying to figure this out.

Tim H. says that the post from 'tom' is infected with a 'Happy 99' virus. I
read the same post but my NAV didn't see it.

WHY?

What attachment?

Thanks Tim.

Sorry about all this. I was just trying to find out what was happening.

I've been using an anti-virus program since a run-in with the 'Israeli Virus
' 20 years ago.

The very first post Tom (the OP) made had happy99.exe attached to it. Like I
said, your ISP might block attachments and/or viruses so that's probably why
you're not seeing it.

That's the way happy99 works. It infects the winsock files to send a copy of
itself out whenever an email/newsgroup posting is sent.
