I opened up a light controlled night light cause I was curious to how it works and in there there was a transistor that was labeled: PCR 406J. This is the description I found for it on the internet: UTC PCR406 silicon controlled rectifiers are high performance planner diffused PNP devices. Does anyone know what that means? I don't have a clue.
Thanks

A silicon controlled rectifier is not a transistor, it is a different sort of device. Google it.

SCR's (aka Triac's) have been the most common devices for mains control for decades due to ease of use. Transistors have been harder to use in those applications.
