Does everything that's fun have to be useful?

---
Yes, of course, if only to elicit the fun-ness of it through its
utility.

A joke, for instance, is useful to its teller in eliciting laughter
from an audience and sharing in the fun.

But, since you didn't flag your circuit as being a toy and you
generally seem to want your stuff to be considered bulletproof,
why are you surprised that the responses to your post were critical?

The problem is that there is NO stable state to start from. A true
F-F is the only way to go.

Oh, don't be do rigid. Build one of these and play with it. It does
impressive things.

Less fun, but here's a circuit I just laid out:-

The inverter is microscopic single-gate Schmitt trigger type and the
p-channel MOSFET is half a dual.

My rule is... never use a floating gate!
(Few exceptions.)

However ...I don't use IGBTs and don't know their gate dynamics.

That's just an n-ch mosfet. That's the way I draw them.

Um, what sort of machine are you using to connect to the internet?
What sort of memory does it have? Sounds like roughly 10 billion
"exceptions" right there.

Hmmm, what can we do with an spdt switch?

The circuit amused me for a while. What could be more important than
that?

Those are special floating gates designed to float in an IC :)

A floating wire connected to the gate of bigo mosfets (TO92 TO220) can
act like an electrostatic antenna.
No only that...but maybe..just maybe some circuit parasitics might do
just the right phase shifting for all out oscillation.

Oh yeah...
I draw my mosfets as 3 pin boxes...seems quicker..

How about a 74HC74 D flip flop?

+

Needs some de-bounce, perhaps a C parallel to the button?
Output flips on button release.

Aha. "It's not a bug, it's a feature!".
It's interesting to play with.

I like the mosfet symbol - I can't seem to keep the proper ones
straight either :) I might start using it myself...

That's the symbol I use for IGBTs.

I think I've ssen it as an "April's Fool" circuit in Elektor eons ago.
