PS3 Controller Repair

While playing a video game, I may have pressed the "X" button on my PS3 controller a little too hard. The button got jammed and I had problems turning my Playstation 3 system on/off because of it.
I bought an 11pc precision screwdriver set, went on youtube to learn how to disassemble and clean my controller, and got to work.
When I got to the jammed button, I noticed that the little beige cushion of rubber (I think) underneath the "X" button had been torn. I also noticed a similar tear for the padding of the "square" button.

These little cushions for the buttons are not supposed to come off, and... what I think I should do to repair it is maybe take a small piece of a napkin and glue the severed piece back onto the pad. The problem is, I don't know if this is right. What glue should I use? I need something safe, something that will not wear or corrode the pad or cause any other internal damage after I reassemble the controller.
. I couldn't find any tutorials on how to fix this type of problem, but maybe someone on EP Forums might know.

That tear is caused by fatigue... The thickness of the rubber there will not allow you to simply glue it back.
Ideally, you should find a replacement and swap it for a new part. Glueing or taking the pad back together may end up just jamming more often.
Here are some parts : http://mag.divineo.cn/magento/ps3/controller-rubber.html

The pieces came in the mail. I cleaned my controller, and was careful to place the new pieces in their place. That was last year. There actually was some troubleshooting still with my controller, but I just put up with it. When I turn on the machine, the buttons will sometimes "press themselves". For example, the left button on the D-Pad will just move on its own on startup. If I press R3, this will cease, but then the controller will think I pressed another button and continue to act up.

After a few minutes the controller will settle down, but if I were to press three or even four button at once, as I sometimes do, the controller will act up again.

Was there something I might have done wrong when I opened my controller? Is there anyway I can make it so my controller does not act up?

Only thing I can suggest is being as observant as you can to make sure the new rubber inserts have been placed correctly.
There are two possible causes for a false button press like that... either the conductive pad on the rubber insert is making contact with the contacts on the circuit board, or there is other damage to the controller's circuit board that we were not previously aware of. Look carefully for any debris, and clean the contacts on the circuit board.

You can always try to reassemble the controller but leave the buttons and rubber inserts out to see if this happens again. If so, you have a fault on the circuit board somewhere. If now, the problem is with the new rubber inserts or assembly. Pay close attention to the orientation of the buttons as they go back in, and orientation of the rubber inserts.
