Problem with Relatives watching Excessive TV their Addicts?

Despite the obvious solutions,

Is there an electronic mini tv remote control that will jam the tv
either switch it off ,switch over or mute it?

so that it will appear faulty intermitently I have tried mini
commercial remote controls but they have NOT work for our Sony TV just
the Phillips TV (line of sight)it does NOT work at an angle and I am
NOT talking a severe angle here:)

Any electrical diagrams I could follow and pay to have them assembled
professionally or would this be a prohibitively high price to do same?

I am sure there be commercial demand for a product like this.

see http://www.familysafemedia.com/

TV B Gone http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/tv/196209_tvbegone21.html

these ONLY work in the USA NOT Europe could these be adapted in any
way?

Regards,

Heidi

Would you rather they monopolize the TV Set or your Internet Set-up ???
I accidentally discovered that a 12Volt fluorescent fixture in my
Motor-home was blocking my Remote Control to my Bell Express-vu Satelite
receiver. I suspect the ~ 15 KC Inverter/Ballast Modulating the
Fluorescent Tubes was blocking the ~ 15KC signal from the remote
Controller. I simply shaded the receiver from the fixture so I know that
it was the cause of the problem. These 12 Volt DC Fluorescent fixtures
are available from RV dealers for ~ $25.00/ 2002 price. Hide it in a
Lamp Fixture in plain sight.

Thanks for your advice but we only have ordinary lighting in tv room
and NOT fluorescent lighting and I am sure if I tried to install that
they would object.

Paint the photo diode on the Sony TV with red nail-polish so they can't change
channels without getting up. hehehe!

Hey Now,

They would see that if the looked and there would be a massive
arguement in the house too:)
I got my TV B Gone keychain turn off tv remote yesterday it works
intermitently with the Sony TV and same with the Phillips TV my
parents are puzzled when the tv switches itself off mysteriously and
react by hitting the ON key of there remote control to switch it back
on again.

The Problem with this little device you have to be in the rooms with
the other people who can observe your hand movements,(risk of getting
caught)
plus the TV is only off for a few seconds so you could really say TV B
Gone is a marketing gimmick I need something covert like a cellphone
remote control that could be activated from a distance and play havoc
with the tv or a TV B Gone unit with a timer fitted.

Another thing you could try...
Connect the output of a video device (VCR,DVD,ColorBarGen,etc) to the cable line
from another room so it interferes with the cable signal.

TV sucks bigtime, especially the sound, which you cannot escape.
Maybe you could sabotage the TV when they're out of the house, then do
it again to the new one, until they get tired of spending money.
Just kidding, that wouldn't work. The new TV would be under warranty,
and you would probably be found out.
You could throw the TV out the window...
Or not.
I feel your pain.

An easy way would be to run a switch(or use a remoted controlled switch like
a garage door opener or even a car security system(not the whole system but
just the switch ;). Then just put the switch inbetween either the power of
the TV or the cable connection. You could probably buy a simple remote
controlled switch like above(Well, not necessarily the switching part) in a
kit or something off some hobby store and then just hook a switch up to
it(maybe a relay or something). Probably wouldn't be to expensive if you
knew how to do a little soldering. (you could ask for help in here if you
could get the remote controlled part).

Whaddaya, living in a half-way house? How sick are these people? And you?

What's wrong with just getting a TV of your own?

If you're addicted to ontrolling their behavior, that can be treated too,
you know.

Good Luck!

"Risk of getting caught" means that you know you're doing wrong and just
want to control them. My sister suffers from the same neurosis.

You definitely need medical attention.

Good Luck!
