You know everyone is sitting around with
their Coke and Popcorn staring at their
computer screen waiting for it all to start.

I hope they're not holding their breath. :^)
Doctors tell me that having a fighting spirit
is always a good sign that a person is
getting on the road back to good health.
I hope that is the road you're on...

Thanks, I am. I decided to use all the fight
I have against the cancer.
But we don't want to rush you, only you
know when you're ready...

How about if I just don't fight with them,
period? They can say whatever they want.
That's on them.
You don't have to fight necessarily. I am
sure the crowd would be just as entertained if you took that olive branch and shoved it
up someone's... well ... never mind...

Hehhehheh. What a waste of good olive
oil! Besides, it's much better cold pressed.
Just work on getting well.

Yep.

I hear back then Bass was just getting
into grass; probably where the smoke came from...

Hehhehheh. That was a little before my time.

Since they never even called me, I'm not
exactly shaking in my riding boots. :^)

Did you ever notice how none of these guys
ever complains about Jim Rojas' collection
of hundreds of thousands of pirated manuals
which he sells online? FTR, I think Jim's site
is a great asset to the trade, as well as to
the thousands of end users who buy "dealer"
manuals from him.

Really? Ask Tourman about some faulty Bosch motion detectors sometime...

They were Detection Systems at that time, but yeah.

I would be curious what Bosch's response would be if the same thing
happened on their watch

I know what their respone was because I asked at ISC about the defective
DS820 and DS835 units after Bosch bough out Detection Systems. The nice gent
at their booth couldn't be bothered. Almost all the units I installed have
failed and been replaced at my expense, and I will never buy another product
from them.

Now see, had it been me .....

I'd have packaged a few of them up and sent them to the marketing
manager of one of their competitors along with a letter out lining in
detail how they refused to make good on their product. Of course a
copy of the letter would go to their marketing manager also. Every new
batch of bad ones would go to a different competitor. If you thought
there were going to any ramifications from doing that, you could
simply send the letter annoymously. Regardless, it would at least
raise some "hackles"

By the way, did you ever pursue the Tri Ed issue?

That's your choice of words, not mine.

Manuals and software are both the
intellectual property of the companies
that own them. The law is the same.

I think there must be some model change that happened. I have put in
a lot of 835i and 835it models and have not had problems other than
one or two (out of perhaps up to 1000). What failed? False alarms, or
relay gone to sleep, or what?
Since Bosch has a three year warranty what happened? Did they not
give you a new unit or did they not pay you to replace the junk unit?

The units were made by Detection Systems before Bosch bought them out. It
was the microwave component that failed, and they did replace some of the
units, but they failed too. No remuneration for service time.

That may be, but it's obvious to all of us that there's a "line" between
"manuals" and "software". When I contacted DSC about your pirating
their software the first time, they acted to protect their property. In
the second instance, all I had to do was post the URL to the page on
your site and you removed the software. The most unprofessional thing
any web designer can do is publish a web page that's caulker-block full
of broken links (and that's something you stated to a poster several
months ago).

Now some manufacturers may take issue with Jim's site. I think the only
one that's actually done anything about it has been Brinks. I don't for
one minute believe you are so naive as to think the other manufacturers
don't know what Jim's up to.

I used a number of older model DS detectors (I think they were DS774 or something like that) a long time ago. They worked ok.
Bob's bad experience with the company made me decide not to use them for quite a while. Now I keep getting inquireies about their
more recent models, like the ISC-PDL1-W18G/H series. I've been reluctant to add them to the store but one client really wants them
so I guess I'll give them a try.

Perhaps you'd be so kind as to help me out here, you acknowledge that
software applications are the intellectual property of the companies that
own them, you claim to be in the business of helping others protect their
property, yet you quite happily give away the property of others, and have
argued or debated if you will, since we are no longer arguing, in the past
that it is your right to do so, is that about the size of it?

...so I guess I'll give them a try.

Bob (aka Tourman),

I decided to reactivate the Detection Systems line of motion detectors on our website. Since they're part of Bosch Security now I
renamed the category. I also added the newer Bosch models. I'll let you know how they work out for us. Here's the link.

http://www.bassburglaralarms.com/bosch_ismbld1_blue_detector_102362_prd1.htm

I checked and I think the ones we used before were from the DS774 series. As I mentioned, those didn't cause us any problems.
Their appearance was clunky but I don't recall any failures.

Now here you go AGAIN! This is obviously a personal communication (in
that it's directed at a single individual). You do this over and over
again, and then you wonder why it is people "in the trade" who
participate here object to your shenanigans. For someone that doesn't
"want to fight", you're certainly not above pushing all the wrong buttons.

Bosch is always changing their tune.
They told us you had to be a BCSD
to get the Blue Line detectors. I
guess money talks and BS walks.

Yep. The funny thing is those Blue
Line sensors aren't expensive. I
wonder why they made such a big
deal about it.

This thread (like several others) already made
reference to Bob's dissatisfaction with DS.
Others brought it up. He and they, including
Mr. Olson, are well aware that I had previously
dropped DS due to what Bob said about the
company. It is on topic to discuss selling
and/or using the products and it is relevant
to offer to post results of trying them out.
He sells parts on line, of course he is
going to talk about that. What else could he talk about? He not going to
go put one in somewhere. How about
him giving all the profits from this one
post to charity, and we all match it?

Last time I donated to a charity, several
people in this newsgroup jumped on me
for it. Did of them give anything or were
they too busy posting flames to write a
check?

Also, it is common practice in this
newsgroup for posters to address
other specific participants. Until all who
complain about that stop doing the same
I think I'll just continue.

I am getting some (almost goofy) requests
for POS gear integrated with CCTV. That
is fine, but I know less than nothing about
POS gear...

We sell American Video Equipment's line of
POS interfaces. Most of the time customers
already know what they want when they
order which is good because I haven't had
time to study it much. From what little I do
know about it, the stuff is pretty simple.
There are combinations of interface, cable
and (sometimes) another accessory for each
major make / model of register.

AVE's website has a page where you can
look up the customer's register and select
exactly what you need.

Once you have the gear you plug the camera
feed and register cable into the interface.
You connect the interface to the DVR, set
a few parms and you're done.
Okay, I see it when I eat at a restaurant
and I fix it from time to time as a favor to
some customers, but it isn't a product
line. If folks are trying to order this stuff
directly from a security vendor is that
becoming common elsewhere?

I don't know about elsewhere but they
do like to order it directly. I suspect
most are folks who've already had a
professionally installed system and have
decided to add onto it or open a new
store.

It's a growth industry. "Sweethearting"
at retail stores, especially supermarkets
and electronics stores, eats up a huge
portion of profits.
Anyone doing POS and CCTV installs?

Nope, but I sell enough of it anyway.
It's not what I expected to be doing. In our state you have to have a license of
course for security and that includes
CCTV.

This is good for you. The only competition
you have is online stores (like mine) and
most customers still prefer a professionally
installed system.
So regular POS guys couldn't legally
do the work anyway.

It could be that they've got a security
license or they've hired ex-alarm guys to
do the installations for them.

In Rojas's case he removed what
Me, too. There have been three manufacturers (out of a couple of hundred) who asked me not to use their images. I have a semi-pro
photography studio so I took my own images.

To date not one single manufacturer has so much asked me about their software. When I still had the FAQ webservers running I used
to maintain software and manuals online. Now I let the manufacturers and distributors provide it to my customers.
