Hi, I really need some help here,

I am currently doing a thesis project where I have to control a motor precisely under load. I have a data acquisition board that has an analog output signal of +-10v (at an assuming minimal current). I NEED to purchase a power amplifier and power supply combo that can scale the +-10 volts to the voltage needed by the motor. Additionally I need it to be able to provide the necessary current (i.e. provide enough power). The motor consumes about 120W Watts peak at 38 volts max.

EVERYWHERE Ive searched they come up with servo amplifiers / motion controllers / analog servo controllers etc etc etc. A servo controller is not what I need. I already have a Data Acquisition board and a feedback transducer (LVDT), so am more than capable of controlling the motors by writing my own software in Labview.

So my question is, does anyone know a company that specialises in making high quality power amplifiers or this purpose?

Cheers Jamie

Have you tried looking at some of the audio amplifiers from National and ST?

TDA parts are good. I have used a TDA2003 in one application and it worked well. OK it was an audio application, but i see no reason why you cannot use it for motor control. Watch out for back emfs etc.

These devices also have all the thermal overload protection built in as well

Available in TO220 packages so easy to mount to heatsinks too

I have exactly the same problem, I already have all the I/O I need and want to implement my own controller and now I just need an amplifier to drive the motors. Did you have any luck in finding anything useful? I'm looking for amplifiers than can give me 10A-20A at 24V. I need 8 channels in total.

If available motor-driver IC's are unsuitable - there are components called power op-amps that you could also try to look at.
Otherwise, unless space it at a premium, use ordinary op-amps to drive discrete power transistors.
