Can i use a 9v 600 mA adapter instead of 12v 500 mA one? For my modem. I know lower voltage rating shouldnt harm it but when i plug it in, the device makes a very low humming sound. Please help. I need to download elder scrolls online

[mod edited to show mA instead of A]

Ofcource you mean mA. And yes... Neither lower ot higher votage can be used. If it makes noise you can try a different one of same voltage and same or higher mA rating.
