Please help to identify component

    This is a 3.5mm headphone socket from an LG Express laptop. The motherboard is labelled DYnamic KSMO-V0 E15063094V-0. The socket is labelled A604C.
    There is some sort of switch at the far end of the socket - when the jack is inserted the tip does not contact the switch but stands off by a fraction of a millimeter.
    Can anyone say what is the nature of the switch ? Since its not contact operated how does it work ? I enclose photos showing both sides of the mystery switch removed from the socket, a view showing the hole through which the tip of the jack is exposed and the complete socket.

    That is an InfraRed device, quite possibly a proximity (reflective) detector.

    Many thanks for that - do you have any idea as to who manufactures this combination switch ?
