Its fixed! Its Fixed!
Its working well. Both channels 1 and 2 working seperately yet simultaneously, and responding to low and high frequencies as 73's de Edd said.
I received the new potentiometer and SCR and just decided to install them, said a prayer and voilla, it works.
Thank you all for your help, time and suggestions. I certainly could not have done it without you.
All of this so I can surprise my wife with that Chipmunks Christmas album (circa 1962) from her childhood and now she can play it on her working record player.
Thanks and you guys are awesome. This must be the best electronics forum on the internet. I am sure that if they were still around, Nicola Tesla, Thomas Edison and Marconi would be on here too!:D

PS, know where I can get a Saturday Night Fever record??? (just kidding)

Congratulations,
We love happy endings...

Just for curiosity and the fun of it ,
Can you please measure the resistances of the SCR you pulled from the board.

Hi dorke,
Still grateful for all your guys help :)

Please bear with my rudimentary terminology.

With my meter set to 20K, the reading from the gate to the Anode is infinite (?) in other words its like `no connection` whatsoever hence no reading or change to my meter. an open connection - again, please forgive my terminology.

From the gate to the cathode, its the same, no reading on the meter.

and just for fun, from the anode to the cathode its `000`

You are welcome .
Your terminology is fine,if you are getting a reading of "O.L" it stands for Over Limit.
In this case it means over 20K (not necessarily infinity).

The SCR is shorted Anode to Cathode !

Can you please check the Gate to Anode and Gate to Cathode in diode test mode flip the polarity of the test cables as well.
