The grease dries up for the tracking mechanism, and the laser pick up assembly. Dust and heat, dry the grease, and can also cause your semiconductors, and caps to go bad. Try cleaning the unit and lubing the moving parts. Look for caps with rounded tops, they may be dried out and damaged. Good Luck!
