Pioneer SX-V400 Troubles

I am having some problems with a Pioneer SX-V400, I have looked on
there site but they don't have that model listed. However this unit
is not new at all, it is many years old.

When I turn on the power the front display panel will turn on with the
all the numbers and volume all lighted up, the volume will be turned
up full, and there is no way to turn it down, but still no sound will
be coming out of the speakers. The front panel display will have all
the lights on and you can't make them disappear or anything. It won't
respond to anything I do.

If anyone has an idea what I could do to this please give me some
advice.

Thanks,
Jeremy Ross

One of these crossed my bench recently. Customer never approved the repair,
so I never found out exactly the problem, but I can tell you it's probably
not the usual suspects - solder connections or obvious power supply
problems. The service manual was no longer available either - I was going to
try to get my tech reps at Pioneer to fax me some schematic info.

I think you may be out of luck on this one.

Thanks for your reply,

The unit was in a very dusty area and dry area. I believe that has
something to do with the problem, I did buy a can of air and clean the
unit all and dusted it out but with no luck. I really can't think of
anything else, I seen a fuse and a battery, If I changed them do you
think that might work? I didn't look to see if the fuse was blown but
I will have a look right now.

Thanks for any more help,
Jeremy Ross

Well, knock yourself out - go ahead and change them but I really doubt it
will affect your problem. You could try looking for bad solder connections
along the FL tube, and on the front panel generally. Maybe you'll get lucky.
