RPTV Monitor/Receiver, 1000 line horizontal resolution,
manufactured 1996, digital convergence. After many years of faithful
service, and
almost perfect convergence, my old faithful Pioneer has developed a problem.
Right before my eyes, blue convergence changed on the left side of the
screen. I can bring it back to almost perfect, but not quite and I'm at the
end of range. I've never been inside a Pioneer, and I'm not looking forward
to getting down on the floor, my old knees will be complaining.
Cant be chips, because I still have control and the flaw only affects the
far left side of the screen, I'm thinking
capacitors, or solder joints, or connectors.
Any Pioneer aficionados out there with some past experience?
TIA

Still, convergence IC's are a common problem on the Pioneer's. Or it could
just be solder connection at the convergence IC's...
If it uses the STK392-110's be aware they have been upgraded to
STK392-180's.

The 6091 should use STK4274-SL. Common problem. Remove the speaker grille
and cover underneath. The convergence amp assembly is mounted to the cover.
Touch up all solder joints that look slightly suspect and replace the STK
and you should be fine.

Note that Pioneer has been shipping an STK4279-SL recently, so this will
work also.

Thanks. After watching it all weekend, I've noticed that the flaw almost
disappears after the set has been on for awhile.
But control is still at the end of range.
I still dont believe its the STK, but I have yet to dig into it.
Time to dig out the capacitor checker. And the knee pads.
Or start shopping for a D-ILA.....
