I have a Pioneer PDM600 CD player.

The player will not recognize & play CDs

After opening case, I found it will load each disc from cartridge, but
drive motor does not spin. (yes, CDs are being loaded correct
orientation - label down for this type of player)

Motor is good and cabling from cct board to motor tests okay.

Any ideas why power may not be getting to drive motor?

Why the motor is not running? The laser is not making focus, the motor
could be bad, the motor drive circuit could have a problem, etc. Read the
cd player information at www.repairfaq.org, do some troubleshooting, and
repost the results with some minimal useful information.

Some of these the lens will just fall off the laser unit. With care a tech
may be able to re-attach it, if it can be found rolling around in there.

Some other models had a bad pickup flex cable.

There are some other Pioneer models on which a shorted spindle motor was a
common problem.

Or maybe the pickup is just bad.

Way down on the list is a bad IC protector, voltage regulator IC, decoder
IC, other electronic problems.

Call me crazy, but have you tried cleaning the lens yet? Just clean it
with a q-tip with a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol on it. I know that
fixed the same problem on a car cd player I had.

Since the lens is "upside down" on a Pioneer, cleaning is rarely the
problem. Not that they don't get dirty in there, it just doesn't tend to
settle in on the pickup lens.

See the CD Player Repair Guide at the site below. Specific info on
Pioneer. Typically, spindle motor, cable, dropped lens, tired suspension
grommets.

I read the FAQ, did a number of tests to no avail. I put the repair
project aside and finally got back to it last weekend.

I thought I would post my fix - in case this info is helpful to
someone else with similar problem with a Pioneer PDM600.

There is a plastic assembly which clamps CD to motor from the bottom
side of drive assembly. On the plastic assembly a small metal ring is
affixed and clamping occurs when it is attracted to the magnet on
drive motor.

In my broken unit, the metal ring had loosen from plastic assembly and
was stuck to directly to the drive motor. Thus, the metal ring was on
top of side of the CD, the CD was never clamped in place, focus was
never achieved, and disc did not spin.

I used a small amount of model glue to reattach metal ring to plastic
assembly and unit was restored to service.

Thanks to all for responses and ideas how to fix the unit.

Manual PDM 600

Hello everyone,

I have been searching for the Owners Manual for the Pioneer PDM 600 but to no avail. i have misplaced mine some yeras back and never got it as i'd even moved house since.

I would kindly request anyone here in the Forum to kindly forward the link / .pdf if the Manual is available.

My problem started quite like Bubba that the Lens pickup was slow and then finally just dies out on me. I have since got a replacement PWY 1009 from partstore.com and need to replace the setup. In my eagerness to repair my beloved CD player i'd tried to send the tray holding the pick-up mechanism to Japan for replacement but that too seems to have gone haywire - too many problems at hand - and the manual or your ideas may help me out of this jam.

Please help...

Thank you.:)
