My Pioneer HTZ121 DVD is behaving erratic. With all 5.1speakers connected there is sound from all speakers for some time, if i increase the volume then the sound stops. After keeping it off for about a week it works normal again.

Without the 8 Ohm main speaker ( Only 4 surround plus base bin) it works at any volume.

The area above the amp card is getting very hot when 8 ohm main speaker is connected.

Is it a speaker or amp fault?

Try another speaker. If the issue persists, it is likely a fault of the amplifier. If the issue goes away, it is the speaker.
Could also be an issue with the cable's insulation, check the cable and all connections.

I now realised that it is not a speaker issue. If i select DVD, it says loading or stop or no disc. After this, i think the system hangs and then nothing play... This happens erratically. Sometimes the DVD functions normal.

Could be an issue with the power supply. Show us a clear picture of the area that gets hot.
