Pioneer CT-450 Tape Deck Repair

I am trying to refurbish my stereo system I recently pulled from storage. I am working on the tape deck because it did not play. I have since replaced all the belts because they had basically disintegrated. When I power up the deck, the motor and belt driven gears spin. When I hit the play button nothing happens. REV and FF works. I think I got the puzzle back together right.

I'd start by cleaning the tape head surfaces with alcohol.
Then I'd make sure all my cable connections were correct to the amplifier (and that you remember which
push-buttons on the amp to engage to hear the tape deck).
Try the simple stuff first.
