I need help ........

Make: Philips TV
Model: 29PT6361/79B (manual also mentions 29PT6021/5)
Chassis: A10A/AA
Problem: Set works fine off air but when any of the AV inputs are
selected, the set shuts down. The expected picture looks fine for the
few seconds before shut down.

According to the manual & flashing front indicator the problem is
missing + or - 13v to vertical stage .... this is not the case.
When looking at the error log, its is either the missing vertical
supply or I2C problems (various random error codes).

About 6 months ago we called to set up a DVD on this set & only one AV
input worked then (the customer was happy to leave it that way).
We have also been told that over the last month the kids have been
retrying selecting AV a number of times & eventually it would work.

Any clues would be appreciated.

I have seen this happen when the menu has the AV setting for NTSC when using
PAL playback. I don't know if it was that model, but was a Phillips.

IIRC, Philips have a system that blanks the screen when no video is
present.

This works off the presence/absence of sync pulses. Many copy
protection schemes mess with the sync pulses thus fooling the TV.

You can prove this by feeding a video signal into the AV input from
either a bar generator or perhaps a VCR in 'straight through' mode. If
this works, the only option would be to modify or disable the blanking
function.
