Philips/Magnavox TV Question

All,
I have a 25" tv model number 25TS56 C121. I actually have two of these, one
I got secondhand that I don't have a remote control for. Here's the
problem: On the secondhand unit, I cannot get the TV to go to "Aux" input
mode, which would let me use the compsite inputs on the back (RCA inputs).
Philips cust support said I'd have to buy the remote which "may" have an
input button. The one I have owned since new does not have an input button
on the remote. I just go to channel 2 and then go "down" a channel. This
remote will control either TV, so I don't think buying a $50 remote from
philips will help. (Lord knows I have about 4 of those universal remotes
floating around, anyhow!) Philips said holding volume up and down while
powering up the set would do a factory reset, but it doesn't. I've also
done an auto channel find while sending a source to the RCA inputs, nogo.
Do any of you guys know how to do a factory reset on the thing? I know I
should just go buy a 20 dollar VCR, but I'm a bit stubborn.

Thanks,

Daremo

Tried other things - hold channel up/down while powering on? While plugging
set into wall?

I've tried the other buttons and done all while plugging unit in (instead of
power button), but you gave me an idea. I'll begin holding front panel
buttons in counting in binary so I'll be sure to try every possible
combination. There are only 5 front panel buttons, so thats only like 31
possibles.

Thanks

You need the original remote. There is no other solution!

There should be something in the menu even if going "outside" the channels
doesn't work. If not my best guess is that the EPROM took a cosmic ray or
something and changed an option byte, telling the micro there is no video
input. I assume there is one physically on the back of the set :)

I don't know offhand how to set these, you're likely to need a service manual
to find out. I'm not sure, but possibly replacing the EPROM with a model
specific one from Phillips might fix it, or, if you can get into the service
menus on both sets and find the discrepancy you might be able to reset it.
