Hi all friends,
I want to persue my Ph.D in France but I don't have any information
about French universities best known in the field of microelectronics
systems (FPGA's/ASIC based) research/development.
Is there any expert who can guide me in this regard. This information
is very crucial for me.
Thanks,
Muhammad Ihsan Baig

I've never been very impressed with French academic electronics.

I was impressed - albeit at second hand - by the work done at IMEC in
Belgium, but it is not only not in France, but not even in the French-
speaaking part of Belgium. You'd have to learn Dutch if you wanted to
get involved with the local population (Flemings), though most of them
will speak French - is only the French-speaking Belgians (Walloons)
who object to speaking the other Belgian language.

The working language at IMEC will probably be English, mainly because
you have to publish in English if you want anybody to read and cite
your work.

French univerisities have a nasty tendency to insist that Ph.D. theses
are submitted in French, which leads to absurd situations, where every
student has to invent a new (and usually different) technical
vocabulary of acceptable French terms for concepts that are normally
referred to by their English (or German or Russian) names.

Take a look at

If one could handle the language issues, I can think of worse things
than hanging around the Sorbonne for a few years getting a PhD, but
there are a lot of distractions...

I know, <20/20hindsight>
I would loved to have been in Barcelona, in my youth, say early 70's,
despite the somewhat dubious dictator of the time
but i had a job then,
