I have a Pfaff 1471 sewing machine that decided to stop working.
The machine turns on, but the foot pedal no longer makes it work.
I tested the foot pedal with an ohm meter, & it seems to function just fine (the pedal seems to be a variable speed pedal, & the ohms resistance goes up/down as the pedal is depressed more/less)
But the pedal has no effect on oeprating the machine.
The only thing I can add to this is that my house was struck by lightning last week, & a few things fried, such as my alarm system, a few phones, & a few other things.
No TVs, no computers.
I can't believe that it may have fried my Pfaff.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

The motor is probably fitted with brushes which can wear out. Try measuring the resistance across the motor terminals and see if it changes when the motor is turned by hand.

Was the sewing machine plugged in when the strike came?

My first step would be to see if my insurance covered damage from electrical storms.

My second step would be to see if there is anything obviously burnt inside the unit near where the foot pedal connects. My guess is that there is a triac in there and that the speed control is fairly simple (at least that's what I'd hope).

Good pictures of this area might give us something to go on.

Yes, insurance said they may cover it.....they re being very understanding.
I already got a check for most of the other stuff that was fried.
I will probably take it apart & look at the board near where the pedal plugs in.
I will try to take pics.
Thanks,

Al
