Anybody care to get in to this?
Smallish dealers etc, what are you using? like? dislike?

I used to have a nifty set-up in here using a VIVE call forwarding device...
Bus line would be automatically call forwarded after 4 rings.
I would cl fwd to my cell and cell had no ans transfer with pager
notification.
Worked like a charm.

Now, you can't buy the VIVE device any more (I can't find anything similar
either) and I can't find a physical ans machine with pager notification so
it looks like the only route now is with a PC. (progress my ass :)

I agree, a stand-alone auto-attendent is the way to go. The PC card
versions tie up extra space, require a PC be left on 24 hrs, usually
require a separate UPS, and you may be stuck with all the flaws of
Windows, need for updates, virus programs and updates etc.

I've been using the Voice Pro VP206. Apparently, the company went out
of business long ago, but it is still a good product. All digital -
time-of-day, auto attendent, pager notification, fax storage and
sensing, music-on-hold, fowarding 99 mail boxes + built in battery
backup. The VP206 has provisions for 2 external lines and 6
extensions. 4 in 8 out models are also available.

Got mine on eBay for something like $90 which, considering its
performance, is an incredible bargain.

Yes, the phone companies offer all sorts of extra services, but they
generally charge extra for each one of them and they are in control.

The nice thing about having your own stand alone PBX is you can
generally order the minimum POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) lines
from the Telco and be in total control of programming, voice mail,
call forwarding, etc.

When a stand alone device like the VP206 does call forwarding, it uses
the second line as an outgoing line to foward to a cell phone, remote
office, home line, etc. No extra charge except whatever you would
pay (if anything) for the outgoing call.

That alone has saved me $1000s in dealing with clients at remote
locations (like my office at the beach). This particular unit
doesn't allow remote programming to turn forwarding ON/OFF or put in a
different forwarding number from the remote location. That would be
the ultimate. I believe there are some units that do this... (The
old TINA maybe?)

Can anyone recommend some modern non-PC based stand-alone call
attendents that they use and really like?
