Panasonic ag-ez30 does not record anything

Hello,

I am trying to diagnose a second hand ag-ez30. The camera works OK
except that it does not record anything nor play back. Not even the
index is recorded.

The tape mechanism seems to be OK. Tape is loaded flawlessly and
mechanically playing, rewinding and forwarding is smooth as silk. No
marks on the tape.

I guess there's some quite total fault in the signal path but where?

There are a few parallel models to my knowledge: NV-DX100EG and
PV-DV950. There of course are a lot of vendors that sell service manuals
to these. Could someone say which one of the manuals has the best value
for the money ratio?

Have you tried cleaning the tape path yet?
The only manual you should get is for the exact same model!

Yes I have. It was clean - no smudge at all coming from the parts in
contact with the tape.

I guess a total blackout like this is not very likely to happen just
because of dirty tape path. Shouldn't there be at least some sort of
signal? In this case there's nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Recording problem aside for the moment, does it play back at all? If
neither is working...

No it does not. As I wrote: it does not record anything nor play back.
