I can relate to the shotgun using match heads for powder.

In high school we used to make single shot pistols using a bicycle
spoke. A shotgun pellet in the bottom of the wheel part, followed by
match heads. Then the spoke was screwed back into place. The wire
spoke was held and a lighter flame applied to the wheel part and "pop"
goes the pellet.

Was not a rapid fire device!

You didn't try it with the spokes still on a wheel, mounted on an axle?
Load all the spokes. apply heat sequentially.
Ought to be good for, what, 30 rounds?
