OSHA Requirments/Burgular Alarm Siren

One of our commercial customers is required to have OSHA come through and
test the sirens on the Burgular alarm. I've never heard of this happening
but I'm assuming they are there to check that the sirens are not too loud
for the occupants (this is a 2 story office building). Does anyone know what
the OSHA regs are on indoor sirens or where I could find them?

Thanks

That's a new one on me. I know occasionally OSHA would check safety
equipment on processing machinery - alarms/sirens for safety, but a Burg
Siren? They have no jurisdiction in that area, unless there has been safety
concerns, or complaints about safety because of them. Let them show you the
regs on that one, I don't off hand know of any. It may be a common sense
issue.

OSHA has the right to inspect the noise level in a workplace if there has been
a serious of complaints or if an injury resulted from the noise. To find out
the specifics of what they require and how they will be conducting the test,
contact OSHA's technical standards section at 200 Constitution Avenue, NW,
Washington, DC 20210; Their direct number is 202- 693-2281.

OSHA has specific requirements on noise exposure.

You can get the limits for time and dB levels at the OSHA web site or you
can get a simple table at www.elvex.com/facts07.htm
