I am looking for a no frills quicky oscillator circuit. it only needs to handle around 12vdc and frequency is not important. could anyone point me to a schematic? :)

preferably not using a 555, I'm moving house atm so I don't really want to be placing orders or having to go to maplins. just a working npn circuit or similar.

Make an astable multivibrator. Note that for operation at 12V you will need to place diodes in series with the base connections to the transistors or the negative voltage could destroy them in fairly short order.

Here is a page which describes the problem and the solution (see post #7) (In this case for a much higher voltage, but the same technique is required at 12V too).
