ONKYO HT-SR 875 RECEIVER : NO AUDIO

No sound,nothing.I have my BLU-RAY plugged in to it with a HDMI and
HDMI cable to the T.V. the picture is beautful just no audio.There is
no audio on anything else, AM, FM, CD. Tried everything i know can't

At risk of being insulting, is there a speaker selector switch which may
have inadvertently been switched off?

There are many sensors inside which monitor various voltages, temperatures,
etc. and any of them could shut down the amp but that's generally what
happens: the amp goes into a powerdown safe mode, often with some sort of
diagnostic code displayed on the outside with a series of flashes or the
like. If everything appears to work, I'd start with the speaker protection
relay. When the power is applied, do you hear a "click" a few seconds
later?

It strikes me as odd that there is no sound whatsoever for any source.

Try this...

Set the receiver for plain stereo, with no surround, enhancement, signal
processing, or anything. Attach a stereo source to one of the stereo inputs.
Do you get anything?

This must be a pretty new model. Is it still under warranty? It's at least a
2 year warranty.

If you bought it online Onkyo customer service will still probably authorize
a one-time repair under warranty.

P.S.

That should probably be a TX-SR875 model number. The "HT" probably refers to
the home theater system of which the receiver is one part.

Unlikely you can fix this yourself anyway, unless you are a tech and pretty
well versed in modern surround receivers.

Did you go into the source menu of your receiver and check that the audio is
set for HDMI? You can also try a separate coax or optical cable from your
Blu-Ray player to your receiver and see if the audio works that way. (Of
course, you'll need to make the appropriate change in the audio select menu
if you change it.)

and not the next? If it's never worked I'd definitely go through the setup
procedure at the beginning of the manual, there are lots of settings in
there that could make it non-functional for one reason or another. The fact
that you're getting no error codes strongly indicates that it's not broken,
just perhaps set up wrong.

sec. after i turned it on. So, it might be going into safe mode
but, i still haven't seen any error code. I bought the receiver like
this. I figured it was something minor but ,i m not a tech either.
I didn't pay that much for it so i can put alittle into it . Suggested
retail for this receiver is $1599.00

The click is a GOOD thing, it means that the speaker relay is engaging.
There is a delay which allows the amp to stabilize before the speakers are
switched on. It also disconnects the speakers if a problem is detected such
as DC voltage on the outputs.

If it's never worked, it could be any number of things. If you've never
worked on HT receivers, you will need to bring it to a tech. I've dabbled
in electronics for many years, have repaired lots of TV's, stereos, all
sorts of other stuff but I don't touch these things, they are too
complicated, impossible to diagnose without a service manual. An
experienced tech could probably diagnose the problem is about a thousandth
of the time it would likely take you or me. If you can find one.

If it were mine, I'd probably open it up and see what it uses for outputs,
and see what tests could be performed on them. With a service manual I'd
likely be tempted to trace the input signal and see where it dies, at least
which BOARD it disappears on. It might turn out to be something simple, who
knows.

Another poster suggested you turn off all the digital stuff, set everything
to neutral so as to minimize the signal path and hopefully bypass things
like the DSP board... you did that, right? No effects, no DTR, no DD,
nuttin'?

Disconnect all the wires. Hook up your speakers as shown in the manual. Go
into setup and test the speaker levels. Or you can use the microphone that
comes with the unit and plug it into the jack in the front of the receiver
and it will automatically set the levels. Again, see the manual for
instructions on this. If you can make it past this point, then hook up a dvd
player AND either a coax or optical digital cable between the receiver and
dvd player. Go back into the setup menu (remove the microphone) and make the
appropriate settings to the audio select input menu. Please report your
findings.
