Hi all, new here, just hoping for some info or insight into a problem, I was
given a large Sony TV, its quite old tho, probably about 8 yrs, but it still
kinda works. the only problem is, that sometimes the screen just goes
black, although it still displays the channel number in the corner of the
screen, so its not 'off', and I can still hear the sound.

Also, after a seemingly random amount of time, 30 seconds to a few, maybe 10
minutes, the screen will flash and flicker red, then the TV will return to
normal and be fine. It appears to be the same on all inputs, scart,
composite, whatever...

Thanks in advance for reading, and even more thanks if you maybe know whats
wrong, and it would be worth a repair. I know its old...boy, its an old TV,
but I've never had a large TV and I cannot afford a new one.

I just repaired a Sony KV-27TS36 with same symptoms. The problem was caused
by cold solder joints on the main board. Yours sounds like it might be the
same...tapping circuits with an insulated tool while the TV is running will
help you locate the area. If you have no experience working around high
voltage or soldering, take it to a repair shop! Good luck.

um, I'm not sure how I'm 'pulling chains' John, as I said, I'm new here, so
sorry if I've bent rules, but thanks for the info, Todd, I'll look into it.
I imagine a bit of soldering isnt going to be as expensive as replacing a
bit part of it.
