The Urdu for 'rifle' is
'bandook' but that might also be spelled 'banduq', and is a word that
entered British army language, if not more widely, as many other Hindi
and Urdu words did.

It's a bundook, but san fairy ann.

I've only seen that spelt 'Cinque'

Former resident of Hastings.

How weird, I'd only seen it spelt "Cinq", but Google gives
overwhelming weight to "Cinque". Rather amusing to have
Anglicised the spelling of the original French. "Cinq" is still
valid, though.
