The local server that carried Alt.binaries.schematic.electronics has
apparently closed or dropped it and since ABSE and Alt.comp.freeware
were the only ones I could not get from my own ISP I am looking for a
new source.

Does anyone know a free server that carries these 2 groups and
preferably allows posting to them.

Been using http://www.teranews.com/ for a months or so. Seems OK. Looks like
it carries everything but does hiccup every few days.
Also tacks on an advert as below.

Until it goes under like every other news server I have tried over the
years, that's one of the reasons why I switched to Google Groups.

It baffles me why people are still using news servers like ABSE for
posting images and stuff, it just sucks. Plenty of other options exist
to post your circuit or whatever on the web that are easier, more
reliable, and can be seen by everyone.

They also offer a paid service with more bandwidth.

ABSE is not a Server, its a newsgroup.

Google groups is ok for looking up old articles, but I like to read
newsgroups off line. I can download new messages from a number of
groups, go off line and read them a hell of a lot faster than with
Google Groups' HTML interface that has all those, "Click here to read
more" links.

I like the ability to reply to a message on ABSE, rather than look up
the website, hope it loads, then go back to the newsgroup to reply.

<http://www.usenet-replayer.com/groups/alt.binaries.schematics.electronic.html>
will let you google grunts see the messages.

What you say has merit.
...that has all those, "Click here to read more" links.
I can't remember that last time I saw one of those on Google--and
even longer since I saw one from someone who was posting properly.

The persistance of **ASCII Art** is quite good:
http://groups.google.com/group/sci....f6aa356?q=R1+R2+Q2+author:Winfield-Hill&fwc=1
....and (if it's recent--or your provider has *excellent* retention),
you never have to leave the group.

Greatnowhere carries both those groups and allows posting. To sign up you
just need to give them an email address (but not a free email address
from a place like Hotmail or Yahoo). Go here to sign up:

Thangs John and the others.
I am trying Terenews and seem to be getting more attachments as I suspected
the other server was stripping them before it finally disappeared
altogether.

Take it over to MySpace.com where your idiocy won't be quite so
apparent.

In this case, I have to strongly agree with Jeff... It is crystal
clear that this thread is not an intro thread. I don't get what he took
it to be. Perhaps he thought this was Orkut...
