Pardon my rant
My experience:

Bought a 5500 watt Northstar Generator from Northern Hydraulics three years
ago. With the number of actual power outages we have had, I have LESS THAN
200 hrs on it. During this past event (huricane Isabel) the generator head
smoked. I called
Northstar and since it is off of waranty (two years) they will not cover it.
Talking to the technician about symptoms etc. he said it sounded like
something came loose inside - they still would not cover it even thou it
sounded like a quality control issue.
Buyer beware Northstar generators are
expensive and no better than walmart brand.......

Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately, you generally tend to get what you
pay for.

Sorry for your problems. I was in Quality Assurance for 25 years, and
occurrences like that really tick customers off, and rightly so.

I seriously doubt Northern Hydraulics manufactures even one item. The engine
is probably a light duty Briggs&Stratton, so blame B&S. Northern may have
chosen the wrong engine for the application, and that would indeed be their
fault.

Sorry to hear that. do you mean the generator blew or the motor cilinder
head, Was the unit grounded seperatly and checked, mine was not. or was
it overloaded, Bugs build nests in generators. Some large B&S motors
need their head bolts retorqued at 10 hrs. Or a head can blow.
