new open DMX controller project

Hi everyone

I have started an open DMX controller project released under a GPL licence.

The idea is to produce a USB to DMX interface that is easy to build for
anyone. The unit is similar to the Enttec one but will be easier for people
looking to build it themselves.

It will not use any surface mount components and I will include a strip
board design as well as custom PCB layouts.

The USB - serial interface is designed around the FTDI chip and has the
optional EEPROM included.

The first schematic has been uploaded onto the web and can be found at
www.dmx-forum.info please have a look and post on the forum if you have any
comments.

I have designed a simple PCB layout but I want to add the ability to build
it either as a normal buffered output version or to build it as a true
isolated output version.

Once the version 1 design is complete I will work out a strip board design
and produce some custom double sided PCB's.

If people are interested I will make kits of parts and complete tested
modules available as well.

I believe that it will be compatible with the Enttec version so any of the
development work designed for that interface will work equally well with
this one, such as MagicQ, Freestyler and DMXControl as well as the numerous
other smaller projects and open source software.

This is not a copy of the Enttec open project as this design was done before
I found that one.

Thanks

Richard

Excellent work!
I've been waiting *ages* for someone with both the skill and generosity to
share such a design and especially one which does not need SMT assembly
skillls to build at home! There are a few interesting projects I'd like to
experiment with using DMX purely out of curiosity....
thanks again,

JB

Hi Guy's
The first part of the open dmx project web site is now up. Please have a
look and tell me what you think. http://www.nextec.co.uk/opendmx.htm

I know that a couple of the links aren't working, this will be fixed in the
next couple of days.
