I'm pretty sure that birds have a low capacitance, certainly much lower than a helicopter.

edit: although I've not actually measured them.

Yes, this is my opinion also but I wasn't really sure. So a Condor or a human with wings might have a problem?

I have seen fruit bats fried on the power lines..... maybe it isn't to do so much with the wires but the part of the body it touches. bats wings are a soft tissue they use to jump between items. a bird uses its feet and last time I checked not many birds are big enough to stand on both wires.

I think another issue is that a helicopter (or a fixed wing aircraft) can build up a static charge while flying. This can get large enough to produce a corona discharge (google it, you'll find images of helicopters with glowing discs).

I think a condor would have less problems with wings than a human. This is why I don't drink Red Bull :)
