NetworX Panel Failures

I've run across several instances in the past months where NetworX
panels (NX-6 and NX-8) have failed for unknown reasons. One instance
was when the dailer relay failed and caused continuity between the tip
and ring, nulling the phone line to the residence. Another's symptoms
were the aux and keybus outputs were dead. Good power going in, none
coming out. And even another panel would "eat" transformers. Installed
a new transformer and the next day found it melted like a Salvador Dali
clock. The only common denominator was that they were all Caddx panels
and their problems happened overnight with no evidence to what caused
    the problem.

Can anyone help me out? I ask this mainly because my boss asks me
"why?" and I can only shrug my shoulders and suggest that it was a
    "friday board".

  2. Maybe that's why I saw 1000 brand new NX-6 control panels for sale on the
eBay "power seller" wholesale board the other day. They sold for less than
    $10 each.

  3. Sounds like a power surge problem check and make sure transformers are
    correct voltage and and wattage
too small a transfmer can cuase overheating also check batterys and make
sure there good a battery going bad can drain down a system and cause batery
    to overheat.
i have sevral nx 8 floating around for 5 years now no problem of course that
was before GE bought them and got into the act

Two more possibilities, other than those told by Nick.

The internal self destruct timer that is preset at the factory has timed
    out.

    OR

The dreaded night time attack of Sun Spots has finally invaded your area.

This may be just the tip of the iceberg.

Tell your boss that bad things happen to good people with a smile and he
    will forgive you.

Hope things go better for you tomorrow.

One more possibility is that the stuff coming from the GE plants is
crap compared to what used to be made at the closed TX plant. How
careful would you be for $4 a day? How careful CAN you be when they
won't pay for training on those million dollar machines?

They don't care about the old, low growth stuff. Dumping the old 100
million dollar ITI/Caddx company is nothing to them and they just want
to use some of the parts of the old companies to create areas like
container security where they can hoodwink the government into wildly
    over paying.

sadly it appears you may be on to something there.
GE took what was a great company IMO and I can see it going down hill over
the last few years. What ever happened to that flash upgrade tool we were
supposed to get last year to fix the problems on their "upgrade" of the NX
    panels to V2?

  7. container security where they can hoodwink
You needn't hoodwink the government into overpaying. All you
need is a working relationship with the Busch administration and
they'll happily pay ten times the going rate. But be careful.
One fellow didn't give a large enough bribe and then went hunting
with the VP. The guy was lucky to survive.

GE is dropping more that just the price these days. Soon, some product
lines will be completely gone. The QC that used to be mandatory, is now
done on a "when we have the resources available" basis.

    Yuck.

That makes sense tho, why carry the Concord when they have the Networx
    brand?

Either one is possible however the NetworX line is much more extensive and
quite frankly the panels are flat out better. Any new module or service
supports the NetworX line and doesn't support the Concord (like Premise
    Connect)

If it were up to me I'd figure a way to graft the wireless programming from
the Concord into the NetworX then kill the Concord and Advent

yah, they sorta give you a protected area...sorta. there's only 3 of us in
    my immediate area.

ot.. i figured out how to program a panel in about 3 minutes the other day
though. I'd never done an *unattended* download to a panel before...sheesh
what a time saver! Put all the info in the remote programmer, went to
jobsite and initiated a call in to my computer which traps the panel and
does a download and then disconnects. I can't believe I hadn't thought of
    this before.

    | In my area Volume doesn't do you any good with DMP, they seem to be

    That won't happen.

That's an easy one... You're drinkin' the wrong beer.

  16. That won't happen.

That depends on several factors, Crash. There would have to be a
change at the manufacturer's side as well as mine.

At present I've no interest in DMP, not because it isn't good
stuff but because there are relatively few potential DIY clients
searching for their products. When and if that changes I might
    take an interest.

As to DMP's position, that is entirely guided by what they expect
to gain. If they ever decide they can make better profits by
opening their line up to all dealers they will do so.

It's really not different from what happens in the distribution
side of the industry. Most distributors insist they will only
sell to installing dealers. But I spend well over a million a
year on parts -- far more than the vast majority of dealers. I
can open an account with virtually any distributor in the country
because they all want a piece of the action.

For now DMP is not part of my plans and web based businesses like
mine are clearly not part of their's. No one knows what may
happen two or three years from now though, least of all that
    idiot from Vancouver.

That is absurd, I imagine the reason there are few potential clients is
because many people don't know the brand even exists. Also that never
stopped you from offering every other item under the sun
Fine then become a dealer, I dare you because I know you can't

I'd rather hunt with Cheney than drive with Teddy "Gin Blossom Nose"
    Kennedy!

    You dickless wonder...

  19. I'd rather hunt with Cheney than drive with Teddy
You haven't a chance either way. To hang around with Cheney you
have to be willing to bribe... er, make big donations to his
favorite PACs. To go out with Ted Kennedy you'd need an
operation... or maybe you wouldn't. :^)
    Nice sig line.
