need to make a function generator

hi guys i want to make a function generator which can be controlled by my pc here is the idea i want to use a meg32 as an intefcace i want to use serial data sending to give an amplitude and a frequency to my circuict and i want to use max 038 the only problem is in order to change the frequency i need to change a resistance or a capasitance in the circuit and i need to do it digitally do u have any idea how can i achive it??

What you need is Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) chip instead of the MAX038. Google it.

These can produce an arbitrary waveform at any frequency (up to a max of course) all controlled digitally.
