I need help repairing my Yamaha DX7IIFD. I was installing the E! Grey Matter Response card, and I had to pry out the IC23 chip. While doing so, I heard a crack. When I looked down, I had saw that I broke an internal piece by accident!

It's a ceramic disc capacitor that says "16x 104m" on it. It's listed in the service manual as part C33 on the DM board, but it doesn't list the name as far as I can tell. I need to know the specific name of this component so I can find a replacement ASAP if it's even possible any more.

I know 104m is 0.1uf with +/- 20% tolerance, but I don't know what "16x" means. I can't find the exact match for this capacitor, just orange capacitors that just say "104". Another site I asked this on said the capacitor will still work fine with the chip, but I don't believe that at all. It's significantly damaged.

Welcome to our forum.
Almost any 0.1µ ceramic capacitor should be fine. These are typically used to buffer each IC's power supply. As the tolerance (+-20%) shows, the absolute value is rather uncritical.
As for 16X I have no definitive information. It may mean 16V. Since these capacitors seem to be used to buffer 5V ICs, that's a reasonable voltage, although you can use higher rated types (25V, 50V) as well.

Okay, interesting. I only wish I knew more about this subject. Will this one be a suitable replacement? I really wish I could find the exact match.

The specs on this one are listed as follows:
MULTICOMP MC202103M120B20C0B CAPACITOR CERAMIC 0.01UF 2KV Y5V 20%, RADIAL
those specs, where ever you got them from are not for the caps for sale

the caps for sale are 0.1uF 50V NOT 0.01uF 2kV

you want the ones shown in the pic for sale

cheers
Dave

Oh wow, that's not good at all. I'll have to email the seller on Amazon to ask if it's the title/picture capacitors they're selling or the description capacitors. I honestly didn't even read the description, so I'm glad I double-checked here, first.

EDIT: It seems as if they have fixed the error today. Now it reads as:
0.1uF Capacitance , 50V DC Withstand Voltage and +80%-20% Capacitance Tolerance.

Is that right? It says +80%-20% tolerance, and I don't think that's right. The original was -20%/+20%, which would be identified with M, whereas +80%-20% would be Z.
