You've already trouble shot the vertical. No trouble shooting the color
other than making sure the lenses on the crts are clean and the fluid
inside is clear and the mirror is clean. Maybe get a service manual and
tweak the video settings. 11 years on a projector is getting up there in
years so you also have to consider that one or more of the crts maybe be

Is Whacking your primary trouble-shooting method? <G>

I am certain that whacking won't "help" the problem with the color
If you already suspect bad solder joints what troubleshooting advice do you
want?? Your method of troubleshooting is already troublesome.
Fix the suspect solder joints as you surmised and see if that solves the
problem, but don't keep whacking the television or you will have bigger and
    more expensive problems.
You may want to go to the website for this newsgroup at
there, with some search time, you will find a wealth of proper
troubleshooting information that will help you to repair your television.
    Best Regards,
