HI Good pals,
I posted a problem about my printer HP 1100 laserjet. This printer
prints the test page alright but could not print from the PC. I have
tried it on different PCs and used different cable but the problem
persist.Recently l got an old printer from a friend and tried some
swaping the machine still prints the test page but not from the pc. I
have changed all boards (ie all the active parts)but the problem
remains the same. The only thing that was not changed is the Laser unit
( That black box @ the top. This was the problem wint the friends
printer) and the mechanical part. One thing that confuses me is that
the page count from the testprint continue the the faluty one( my
own)Anyway which part performs the page count?
Thanks and sorry for the long problem

It's a pretty short problem, actually. I've got two of the multifunction
machines (3200m) which use this same print engine. I had difficulty with
corruption of the bios ROM. New SIMMs from Hp fixed that problem.

I'm trying to decypher your post. You say that you swapped everything
electronic from the other machine, but still have the same problem, if I
understand. Obviously the mechanicals of your machine work, but the
interface is at issue. Did you try both the parallel and USB ports?

Have you called Hp Tech support? They were very helpful to me...for a
price. It cost me $25 for the call...over in about 15 minutes; but they
answered promptly, ran through the symptoms quickly/competently AND sent me
two new BIOS ROMs FedEx NextDay service at no extra cost.

This was a bargain for me...both machines cost a grand total of $72.50 on a
local Ebid site, the stupid Centronics 'C' cables were closing out at
CompUSA for a little over $8 apiece (beware, these are hard to find), and I
ordered the factory software on CD for around $10...all of which netted me
two *great* $700 multifunction laser machines for a total of around $125.
One was only halfway through it's first toner cart (1200 lifetime pages
printed).

To answer one question: there is a chip somewhere in there--I would have
thought it was on the removable BIOS chip--which stores page count,
settings, history etc. That, on my machine, is a SIMM board like a computer
memory module under a little cover in the back. That part you have
obviously not changed. Did you simply change out the toner cart?
