I am attempting to install speakers on a coffee table of mine, however when i plug the speakers in to the cable by itself the volume is very low. I want to add a pot to control volume but i also need to add some voltage to crank up the tunes. I am very confused on what to do about this and any help or ideas would be MUCH appreciated.

Not an answer to your question but a cool thing to do would be to ue a surface transducer - then the table itself becomes a speaker :)

True they have become very economical and they actually work quite well all things considered...

You need an amplifier, what are the speakers rated for? Size? Ohms? Wattage? How many?

Unless you want top notch high quality sound, I would suggest one of the many low cost amplifier kits or complete amplifiers from China (that generally contain similar low cost amplifier circuits found in the kits)

The rating of the amplifier will be dictated by the speakers you use...
