Multimeter repair

Hello,
My multimeter DT-830D shows only 1 on screen when is not load on all functions, and won't measure anything only shows 1, speaker make constant pop sound that is not very loud, when I short speaker terminal and random pins on the board that show random numbers. Screen is good connected to board, I can buy new multimeter, but I wish to repair this one.

Could it be dirt / moisture that has get inside yout meter?

Just an initial stab, but is the battery "hot"?
Then put the unit in ohms mode and then use your wetted fingers in progressively compressing the probe tips and switching thru all of its ohms ranges to see if you can get that 1 to change to any other digit.

Looks like its using the old and tried DVM workhorse . . . . the ICL7106.

Waiting to see if that one digit will change.
